The story of any building is inevitably spun of those who have passed through it.

On the edge of the Grunewald forest in former West Berlin lay a peculiar set of buildings used or built by the US occupational military during the Cold War. Some slide further into decay while others are repurposed and warm again with use; offering knowledge and insight into the structural history and political legacy of Berlin that disappears from the surface level of the city.

2014 marked the 20th anniversary since the withdrawal of foreign occupational military from Berlin where simultaneously at these structures, the lights were turned off and the keys pressed to the hands of the recently re-unified German government.  Photographs, maps, interviews and narrative accounts reveal a dense and compelling web of those responsible for charging these sites with enduring meaning.
